Issue #2: 239 new sponsor licences, and the September window is open
Three weeks of sponsor register movement, a first look at our live index of 26,581 entry-level openings, and why early September applications win.
Welcome back to The Gorizzume Weekly. Issue #1 promised we would start tracking the sponsor register between issues — that tracker is now running. Below: what moved on the register, a first look inside our live jobs index, and the one timing decision that matters most this month. Every number is from our own data, checked on 1 September.
Visa sponsors
The sponsor register added 239 organisations in three weeks
When we checked on 11 August, the Home Office register listed 126,263 licensed organisations. As of 1 September it lists:
- 126,502 organisations holding a sponsor licence — up 239 in three weeks
- 121,233 licensed on the Skilled Worker route, up 222 — just over ten new Skilled Worker sponsors every day
- London remains by far the deepest pool, with over 33,000 licensed organisations
Why new additions matter: a company often applies for its licence because it has already decided to hire someone who needs sponsorship. A recently licensed employer can be a warmer target than a household name with a thousand applicants per seat.
Totals are distinct organisations on our daily mirror of the official register, synced this morning.
Jobs market
Inside the live index: 26,581 entry-level openings
Our jobs index — built for graduate and entry-level roles — stands at:
- 26,581 live UK listings from 4,409 employers
- 3,935 posted in the last seven days: autumn hiring is moving
- 9,309 pulled straight from 643 employer career sites, not job boards — these tend to be fresher and less crowded
- 6,945 listings from employers we matched to a live sponsor licence
The takeaway: roughly one in four live openings sits with an employer that already holds a licence. Filtering for those first cuts wasted applications more than any CV tweak.
Recruitment advice
Apply in the first two weeks of September, not the last
Most large schemes are open by now, and many assess applications as they arrive rather than after the deadline. Rolling review means the first fortnight of applicants compete for every seat; late applicants compete for what is left.
- Shortlist ten schemes this week and check the sponsorship verdict on each before you invest a full application
- Aim for three finished applications a week — quality holds up at that pace and collapses beyond it
- For rolling schemes, a complete application this week beats a perfect one in October
If a scheme on your list publishes nothing about sponsorship, that is not a no — 102 of the 212 schemes we checked stay silent. Email their early-careers team and ask; the answer is often more specific than the website.
