Does your job offer clear the sponsorship salary bar?

A Skilled Worker visa needs your salary to clear two bars at once: a flat minimum, and the going rate for your specific occupation. This works out both, shows you which one binds, and shows its working.

Search the job title or the 4-digit occupation code. 270 codes, SOC 2020.

Guaranteed basic pay only. Bonuses, overtime, benefits in kind, employer pension and equity do not count towards the threshold.

Does any of this apply to you?

These can lower the bar. Tick everything true — we use whichever helps you most.

Figures verified against gov.uk on 2026-09-07. General threshold £41,700 (source). Going rates for 270 occupation codes, SOC 2020, table last published 22 July 2025 (source). A threshold of £44,000 has been modelled by the Home Office but is not yet in force.

This is information, not immigration advice. It applies published Home Office rules to what you tell it. It cannot see your full history, and real cases have exceptions this cannot model — switching conditions, previous refusals, absences, sponsor availability. Always confirm on gov.uk, and take advice from an adviser regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority before making a decision that matters.

Common questions

What is the Skilled Worker salary threshold?
The general threshold is £41,700 a year. You must be paid at least that, or the going rate for your occupation code — whichever is higher. Lower thresholds apply if you are a new entrant, hold a relevant PhD, or the job is on the Immigration Salary List.
Does part-time work count?
Partly. The going rate for the occupation is pro-rated to your contracted hours, but the flat minimum salary is not reduced for part-time work. That means a part-time role can pay the correct pro-rated going rate and still fall short of the flat minimum, which is why genuinely part-time roles are very hard to sponsor.
What counts towards the salary?
Guaranteed basic pay, plus guaranteed allowances that are treated like basic pay for tax and National Insurance. Bonuses, overtime, benefits in kind such as accommodation, employer pension contributions and equity do not count.
Why does my job say it is not eligible?
Since July 2025 the Skilled Worker route only covers graduate-level occupations. Some occupation codes are listed as not eligible for standard-rate applications, and no salary changes that — the block is the occupation, not the pay.
