UK visa sponsor register, 14 August to 16 September 2026: 1,029 organisations added, 677 removed

The register does not record what an organisation does, so sectors here are read from names. Of the 677 organisations removed in the period, 110 have names that mark them out as care providers: care homes, nursing homes, home care and domiciliary care agencies, and supported living services. That is 16.2% of all removals. The same name test finds care providers in 4.5% of the register as it stood on 14 August 2026.

Put as a rate, 1.9% of the 5,715 care providers listed at the start of the period were no longer listed at the end, more than three times the rate for the register as a whole (0.5%). Over the same weeks 46 care providers joined, so the net change was −64. A further 23 removals carry “healthcare” in their name without saying what kind; many small care agencies trade under names like that, but so do clinics, so they are counted separately rather than added to care.

The pattern was already there in the previous period. Between 10 July and 14 August, 112 of 858 removals (13.1%) were care providers by the same test.

After care, the most removals were in hospitality and food (56) and legal, finance and professional services (33). Names in legal, finance and professional services, health (nhs, clinics, pharmacy, dental) and technology and software added the most organisations net. More than half the register (56.5%) has names that give no clear sector, so every sector figure here is a floor, not a census.

Sponsors start with an A rating. The Home Office can downgrade a sponsor to B when it is not meeting its sponsor duties, and a B-rated sponsor has to follow a time-limited action plan to get back to A. Between 14 August 2026 and 16 September 2026, 36 organisations went from A to B on at least one licence entry, against nine in the previous 35 days. Of the 36, 14 have care provider names. Two moved from B back to A, and four moved from a provisional rating on the UK Expansion Worker route to A.

Across the whole register, B-rated entries went from 40 to 75. That is still a short list: 75 of 142,041 entries.

London took 380 of the 1,029 additions and 232 of the 677 removals, close to its share of the register. No region lost more than 0.9% of its sponsors. Each organisation is placed once, in the town that carries most of its licence entries, and towns are grouped into regions using a lookup of UK place names; 1.2% of changed organisations could not be placed.

Almost every new sponsor is licensed for Skilled Worker: 975 of the 1,029 additions hold it. 71 new organisations hold a Global Business Mobility route, used to move staff from an overseas group company to the UK. Among organisations on the register at both dates, 48 changed the routes they hold. One organisation licensed for three routes counts once in each route’s row, so the rows overlap.

The register shows who holds a licence today. When an organisation disappears from it, the published file does not say why. A licence can be revoked by the Home Office, surrendered by the employer, left to expire, or end because the business closed or was taken over. Some removals are not exits at all: an organisation that changes its legal name drops off under the old name and reappears under the new one. None of the figures here should be read as revocations.

We found 18 removals that were the same organisation listed again under a new name in the same period. Companies House confirms six of them, listing the old name as a previous name of the same company. The rest pair a removal and an addition in the same town, with the same routes and a near-identical name. Take those out and the period saw 1,011 organisations join and 659 leave. The count is a minimum: a rename to a completely different name in a different town would not be caught.

To see how many removals were businesses that had closed, we checked a random sample of 250 of the removed organisations with company names against Companies House on 16 September 2026, and 221 of them matched exactly one company record. Of those, 30 (13.6%) were dissolved; 170 were active, 11 were active with a proposal to strike them off, 7 were in liquidation and 3 were in administration. The active companies include the renamed ones above. A company that is still active may have given up its licence, had it revoked, or simply stopped sponsoring; the register does not distinguish these.

The register moves every working day, so one period on its own says little. The table sets this report against the 35 days before it, measured the same way from archived copies of the register.

To avoid picking names by hand, this list applies a fixed rule: NHS bodies, councils, universities and colleges, academy trusts, police forces and public limited companies, plus any organisation licensed for three or more routes. Organisations that reappeared under a new name are left out. Being added or removed says nothing about why.
