How BBC recruits
September 2027 schemes (applications open late autumn 2026); process page itself is undated. 5 stages, from BBC's own careers pages, checked 2026-10-03. Test providers are named only where BBC names them.
Step 1: Online application
Application form
Application form confirming eligibility and motivation. No CV or cover letter for apprenticeship roles.
“The first stage of the process is completing an application form. This helps us confirm your eligibility for the scheme and learn more about your motivation for applying.”
Step 2: Online exercises
Online tests
Online interactive assessment of about 60 to 90 minutes with practice beforehand; may include strengths questions, situational judgement or job-specific tasks such as coding.
- about 90 minutes
“Depending on the role, this may include strength-based questions, situational judgement exercises, or job-specific assessments such as coding tasks. [...] They will take around 60 - 90 minutes to complete.”
Step 3: Video interview
Recorded video interview
Recorded answers to a series of questions on a digital platform, some written. Practice available, responses can be re-recorded, and team members review them. Some schemes skip this stage.
- unlimited retakes
“For most schemes, you'll be asked to complete a video interview, where you'll record responses to a series of questions. Some questions may require a written response instead. [...] you can actually re-record your responses as many times as you need to.”
Step 4: Assessment centres
Assessment centre
Usually a virtual assessment centre with a group exercise and an interview; some schemes add a pre-assessment task or use a standalone virtual interview instead.
“The final stage of the recruitment process is usually a virtual assessment centre. [...] The assessment centre typically includes a range of activities, such as a group exercise and an interview.”
Step 5: Offer
Offer
Successful candidates receive an offer, with contact and cohort networking before the start date.
“If you're successful, we'll make you an offer to join the BBC.”
