British Army: does its army entry sponsor a UK visa?
No. British Army does not sponsor its army entry for international students who need a visa. The British Army publishes its entry requirements as age, health and nationality, and the nationality page is explicit about who may apply. British Citizens, British Overseas Territory Citizens, British Overseas Citizens, British Subjects, British Nationals (Overseas) and British Protected Persons can all apply. Irish Citizens can apply to the regular Army, and to the Army Reserve only if already living in the UK. Refugees and asylum seekers are told plainly that they cannot join. The remaining route is the Commonwealth one, which the Army describes as a valued part of its fabric but which was closed to new applications at the time of checking, except for musician applicants, with applications received in the 2024 window and lacking a Recruit Bounty Scheme sponsor now being rejected. There is no visa sponsorship route into the Army: the question is nationality, not immigration status, which is why an offer of sponsorship never arises. The Army separately notes that all applicants are screened for Sickle Cell Trait and that it is not a barring condition.

Does the pay clear the UK Skilled Worker salary threshold?
The pay for this scheme is not published clearly enough to judge against the threshold.
What is the catch international students miss with British Army?
This is a nationality bar, not a sponsorship decision, so no amount of asking will produce a sponsored offer. If you hold one of the British citizenship categories or are an Irish citizen you can apply now. If you are a Commonwealth citizen the route exists but was shut except for musicians when checked, so watch for the window reopening rather than applying into a closed queue. If you are on a student or graduate visa, or are a refugee or asylum seeker, the Army does not offer a route at all. One more thing worth knowing: the Ministry of Defence does hold a Skilled Worker sponsor licence, listed on the register as Ministry of Defence; Defence Business Services. That licence covers civilian defence roles, not military entry, so finding the MOD on the sponsor register tells you nothing about joining up. This record is deliberately not linked to it, because the link would invite exactly the wrong conclusion.
When do applications open for the British Army army entry?
Commonwealth applications closed as of 1 October 2026, except musicians. Checked on 2026-10-01 against British Army's own site.
How should I confirm British Army's sponsorship before applying?
Read the specific vacancy on British Army's careers site, ask its early-careers team directly, and check the employer on the gov.uk Register of Licensed Sponsors. Policies and thresholds change, so treat this page as a starting point and confirm for the exact role and cycle.
